Stitches

Drew got his first set of stitches last week, and hopefully his last. It was not a fun experience for any of us as Ian will surely tell you --about a lot of crying and a few long hours at the clinic. Here's the story...Drew grabbed a recently sharpened steak knife off of my plate while he was sitting on my lap at the dinner table. Lucky for him he only cut his thumb. I say "lucky" because he actually grabbed the blade with both hands. When I saw that he had the knife I knew I couldn't pull it out of his hand without cutting him so I tried quickly to persuade him to give it to me, which he would not. So, when I started prying one hand off he squeezed with the other to prevent me from taking it. Well, he quickly released it as he learned that knives HURT! Side note: I know he learned this because the following morning as soon as we walked downstairs he pointed to the block of knives on the counter, then to his stitches and said, "ow, ow." Back to the "lucky" part. The blade was facing his thumb rather than his other four fingers so he only cut his thumb across the inside of the joint and had to have two stitches to hold it together.
Now, try keeping a toddlers' hands out of his favorite things...sand, water, peanut butter, etc.

Thats so sad about Drew...But I laughed my butt off when I saw Ian. What a creative kid. (and smart for knowing when to run!!)
