Last week Ian had his first day of Kindergarten. He has been looking forward to this all summer! He was so excited! He has jumped in with both feet and been excited about every single thing.
He went to an open house at the school the day before school started to meet his teacher. He introduced himself to her and got to look around the classroom.
Ian wanted to ride the bus. The first day he hoped right on and sat down by another kid. Then looked out the window and waved with a big grin. The first few days the bus ride was his favorite part of the day.
Every morning we walk Ian out to the bus stop. Drew insists on wearing his backpack too. He really wants to get on the bus and go with Ian. I'm not sure how I feel about my kids being so willing to go off with out me :)
On the first day of school, Ian got off the bus in the afternoon and exclaimed, "Guess what mom. We didn't learn ANYTHING at school today!"
But he had a great time, and just didn't consider what he had done that day "learning." They played a name game to start learning every one's name in the class. They toured the school, talked about rules, the teacher read them a story, and I'm sure a bunch of other things that didn't feel like "learning."
After school on the first day we went to get ice cream with one of Ian's friends that is also in his class.
Ian woke up the second day of school saying, "I'm so excited for my second day of school! I can't believe this is my second day of kindergarten!" And said the same thing on the third day. Hopefully that sentiment will stick for the next nine months!

It is my unique privilege to watch your boys growing up! I love them to pieces!! And the reason they are so comfortable 'going off without you' is because they know they will always have your secure home to come back to. Pat yourself on the back, Mom!
hopefully he keeps that sentiment for the next 12 years of school!!
