Ian celebrated his fourth birthday last week! There was a whole week of celebrating going on. Ian said, "I got to have three birthday parties! That's so awesome!" The first one was on his actual birthday. Grandma and Grandpa came to celebrate and have pizza, cake, and ice cream, and open presents. Then Grandma Lee and Aunt Shannon came to stay with us for a few days and help us prepare for the Star Wars themed birthday party. Then, Ian had a little celebration at preschool for his birthday. He got to wear a birthday crown, have the kids sing to him, and eat birthday cookies. Life is sweet!
As a four year old, Ian has started telling me that things are no longer "cute." Today he said, "Nothing is cute for me, Mom. It's cool." In an exasperated tone that indicates he has had to tell me this one too many times.
The Star Wars party was a success! At least I had fun doing it. Although I never would have pulled it off if my mom and sister had not been here to help. Especially with Ian being sick all week (unfortunately he got sick on his birthday and couldn't be too far from a bathroom), I wouldn't have been able to leave the house to run all the last minute errands! (Thanks guys!)
We started off by sending out Yoda invitations "Invited You Are" to a party for Ian. We made this cake, which I think turned out pretty cute...I mean cool :)
When the kids arrived (15 of them) we dressed them in little Jedi costumes and gave them blow up/light up lightsabers. They were told they were Jedi in training. They had to use their lightsaber to keep a balloon off the ground. After that they had a mission to find Darth Vader and destroy the Death Star. They went outside and found the Death Star (drawn with chalk on the driveway). They had to bomb it with water balloons (filled by his fabulous Aunt Shannon) until it disappeared. Then I told them that Darth Vader had escaped and we had to find him. We found a force field (the garage door) that we had to use the force to raise. All the kids concentrated real hard until the garage door opened. Glenn had set up a fog machine, so when the fog cleared the kids saw a Darth Vader head pinata that they took turns hitting with a Lightsaber made by Glenn. Then we celebrated the victory by playing Musical Dots. The kids had to run around while the music played. When the music stopped they had to find a Star Wars icon to stand on. I pulled a matching icon out of a bag, and which ever kid was on the one that matched got a prize. We did this about a dozen times. We then had a BBQ for all the kids and parents and had time to play and jump in the bouncy house. We had cake and ice cream and then opened presents. It was so much fun and Ian really enjoyed it. I hope everyone had as much fun as we did! Thanks to all those who came.

Lori...what an excellent party. I am going to refer to your blog to plan Trevor's in June. How did Glenn do the fog? The cake is amazing....so fun....I am glad that Ian was so happy. Hello to your Mom and Shannon. Hey...happy late B-Day to you. You are a tax day baby, right? I hope that you were able to celebrate.
